NERFU Final
Wolfhounds 29 - Portland 15
April 13, 2024
The Hounds D2 team repeated as NERFU Champions this year, defeating Portland in a physical and thrilling affair, 29-15. Once again the two teams showed off class rugby and a matchup of the Northmen’s more physical smash style versus the Hounds more elegant and dynamic attitude. Portland has no shortage of experience. Having played in this game three times in a row the side is desperate for a NERFU Title.
The Hounds immediately turn their attention to the Eastern Penn Winner - Old Gaelic - who upset last year’s Atlantic Regional opponent Philly-Whitemarsh 15-12. One again the ICC plays host to this regional matchup.
NERFU Semifinal
Wolfhounds 98 - Newport 0
April 6, 2024
The Wolfhounds started their NERFU playoff run with a dominant victory against Newport Rugby Club. Blanking Newport for the second time this year, the D2 boys have come out of the winter break firing on all cylinders, and eyeing the NERFU Championship next Saturday on April 13th.
Wolfhounds 43 - Schuylkill 17
March 9, 2024
After two months of indoor trainings, fitness, and regatherings the Boston Irish Wolfhounds finally got to stretch their legs against a new opponent - Schuylkill River Rugby at the spiritual home of rugby, the Irish Cultural Centre, on March 9th. “Skill” rugby is a perennial Mid Atlantic powerhouse who field a D1 & D3 squad. The team lost in the D1 national title game in 2022 and has deep pedigree and some direct connections with the Hounds. To host them was a great honor and both clubs walked away with beneficial & positive experiences. We look forward to making a trip to Philadelphia to meet up with those lads next year.
Wolfhounds 81 - S. Shore - 7
Nov 4, 2023
The Hounds’ D2 team capped a flawless regular season going 7 for 7 on bonus points wins by dominating South Shore 81-7 in Weymouth on Saturday 4 November. This regular season, was one for the record books.
Never before has a Hounds team been so dominant. A point differential of 401 is astronomical in a very competitive NERFU D2 conference. Much of this year’s success is because of the deep run the squad made in the spring of 2023. The lads had months of extra trainings, matches against top quality opponents from around the country, and a web of connection that resembles a true brotherhood.
Wolfhounds 89 - Hartford 3
Oct 28, 2023
In the penultimate match of the NERFU regular season the Hounds’ D2 dominated Hartford, scoring a Club record fifteen tries en route to a 89-3 victory. The match reinforced the Hounds’ position as table leaders. One more run out against South Shore and the D2 can tune their sights to seven straight weeks of knockout rugby beginning in April with the NERFU playoffs and, hopefully & confidently, a return to Nationals in May.
Wolfhounds 38 - Mystic 12
Oct 14, 2023
The Hounds’ D2 team continues to lay the marker down week to week. On the 14th the team dominated a very good and physical Mystic team. Shutting out the Gulls in the 2nd half and putting up five tries the Hounds were ruthless in their defense and execution. With two matches remaining the coaches have set a high standard for the D2 - shut teams out, score tries.
Wolfhounds 81 - Newport 0
Oct 7, 2023
The Hounds’ D2 team earned another bonus point win in a dominating performance over Newport this Saturday, 81-0. The scoreline once again demonstrates how the defensive minded unit can perform when clicking on all cylinders. The lads scored in droves including 9 total amongst the back three combination of Jack Kiernan, Ronan Griffin & Adam Byrne. While another blowout win does much to boost morale the lads know this is just another step to their ultimate goal of a return to the Final Four and the unfinished business left in St. Louis.
Wolfhounds 36 - Boston 14
Sep 30, 2023
In a scrappy road test the Hounds’ D2 defeated long time rivals, Boston Rugby, 36-14. The Hounds at the top of the table heading into week 4 and a tricky stretch of matches against Newport & Mystic, before a bye week.
Wolfhounds 92 - Worcester 7
Sep 23, 2023
Racking up 14 tries to the visitors’ one, the Hounds were clinical and merciless in every phase. Joe Rooney scored a hatrick in the match, his first try at 1 minute and his third in the 70th. Ronan Griffin had four tries on the day to add to his stack of scoring. It was a challenging day for Worcester, who were constantly putting their physical style forward, but could not compete with the dash and skills of the Hounds.
